Academic Background
Sam is a Specialist in Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation and a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. She currently holds the position of Professor in Veterinary Physiology, at the University of Adelaide, Australia, where she has worked for the past 14 years after emigrating from the UK. She combines teaching, clinical work and research, with a focus on cardio-respiratory causes of poor performance in equine athletes. Sam is internationally renowned for her pioneering work on the development of overground endoscopy, whilst at the University of Bristol, UK. Her current projects relate to assessment of laryngeal function, equine asthma, exercise-associated cardiac arrhythmia and gastric ulceration. She has published over 90 articles relation to equine sports medicine and is a regular contributor to continuing education. She is a founding member (and current president) of the Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS) and is the current Chair of the International Committee for the International Conference on Equine Exercise Physiology (ICEEP).
